How Decorating Your Home Promotes Good Study Habits for Kids
January 26, 2021Choosing the right rug for a room can seem like a difficult task. You typically cannot test out rugs as easily as you can test out paint colors, so it can be difficult to find a rug that already matches a room.
There are a few things that you should look for when trying to match a rug to a room based on the wall color. You will want to look for something that brings more balance to the room, but also looks like it belongs next to the wall color.
A rug adds important decoration, definition, and comfort to a room, so it’s important to find a great rug that works the best with the color of the room.
Rugs for Colorful Walls
If you have very colorful walls, you will probably not want a rug that has the same amount of color. While having a lot of color might seem fun, having both colorful walls and a colorful rug might be overwhelming once you are actually spending time in a room. You want to balance out the color of the walls with the rug.
An easy way to balance colorful walls is to go with a neutral colored rug. Beige and white rugs are great for this. They will not look out of place even in a colorful room, and they will ground the rest of the colors in a way that’s subtle.
Rugs for Dark Walls
When you have a room with dark walls, you need something that will brighten up the space a little. Having too many dark colors in a room can give it a cave-like feeling. Even if you want to keep the room in dark colors, picking a dark rug will not give you a good effect. You can still keep a dark color scheme in the room, but use a lighter rug.
A patterned rug might be a good thing to get, especially if you want to keep the room darker. A plain white or beige rug would brighten the space, but a patterned rug will combine these light colors with slightly darker colors and would still work to brighten the room.
Rugs for Light Walls
In the case of light walls, you have a lot of options when it comes to rugs. You typically won’t want to pick the same color for your rug that you have for your walls, so if you have white walls don’t get a white rug. Having the same color on the floor and walls can make the room feel a little boring, and you miss an opportunity to add style to your room.
Getting a darker colored rug is a good way to add a pop of color to a room with white or beige walls. If you have pastel-colored walls, it would look nice to get a patterned rug that incorporates shades of that color, as well as any accent shades you might have in the room.
