February 9, 2021Making sure that your kids stay focused when they study is very important. If your kids aren’t able to stay focused, it could mean that it takes longer for them to learn. Helping your kids to stay focused when they are studying and doing homework will even free up some extra time for them to play afterward.
The way that a room looks and is decorated has a strong impact on the way that your kids are able to focus on their work. Just by changing or adding a few things in the room where your kids study, you could greatly improve the way that they are doing their work.
Room Color
The color of the walls of a room is actually very important to maintaining focus. If the walls are too bright, it could be distracting. It can be tempting to paint the walls of a room designated for kids in a fun color but that will not help them focus on their work.
When you are painting the walls of the room, make sure that you pick dull or muted colors. Even though it doesn’t seem fun for kids, it will still look nice and it will make it so that they can focus better. Try picking grey-toned blues and greens to improve focus.
Room Lighting
Make sure that the room is always brightly lit. If you have a dull or dark room, it might make your kids feel sleepy, which would mean that they do not have the energy to focus on studying. It would also make it more difficult for them to see their work.
Keep a room brightly lit through ceiling lights and some extra table lights on their desk.
Furniture
It’s hard to pick the right furniture for a study room. You will want them to be comfortable sitting for long periods of time but also make sure that they do not get sleepy in cozy seating. Choose chairs that are comfortable but not something that they can lay back and relax in.
Of course, you should make sure that they have desk space to work at. It’s best if each kid is able to have their own desk space so that they can easily leave their study materials in a place that they can come back to them. If you can’t give them each their own study space or desk, make sure to have plenty of storage drawers next to the desk where they can keep their things.
Decor
Having a chalk wall or white board is a great way that they can study. By writing and drawing on the board, they will be studying more interactively and it is a fun way to motivate them to want to learn.
Make sure that the room doesn’t have too many decorations. These can distract your kids’ focus. Put up decorations that will help them learn, such as the alphabet or a periodic table poster.
