Add an Accent Wall to Enhance Your Space
December 13, 2017Great Color Ideas for Your Basement Remodel
January 17, 2018The best way to upgrade a master bedroom suite affordably is by having it painted. Naturally, a bedroom is a place where you want to relax. Therefore, before you even embark on a painting project, you want to carefully review the color choices.
Complementing the Colors
The paint colors for a master suite should be personalized yet relaxing. If your master bedroom features a sitting area or bathroom, you want to integrate the colors so that they blend well too. You do not have to match the colors exactly; however, the hues should complement one another or provide a unified look. For example, you can use the accent colors in one of the rooms and add those colors in another room, thereby creating a cohesive appearance.
Conveying a Mood
You also want to consider the type of mood that you want to convey. While soothing shades are preferable, you do not have to necessarily forego dark or bright shades. You can still paint a brighter shade on an accent wall while neutralizing the shades and tones on the other walls. You can take this approach as long as you feel that the look represents your personality or still makes you feel at ease.
Good Color Choices
One of the brighter colors that works well in master suites is green. Green is often used because it features both warm and cool elements. You can also select from a broad range of tints. For example, you can use fern green or forest on an accent wall and paint the trim or other walls creamy white or beige.
Soothing, cool blues are always welcome in a master bedroom suite. While deeper shades of the color lend a stately appearance to a bedroom, pale or muted tones produce a softness that is soothing. Often, painters and decorators combine shades of blue with beiges or browns. A crisper look is achieved by mixing deep blue with white. You can also combine light blue and pale green for a cool and comforting look.
Remember that cool and pale colors make a room appear larger while darker and deeper shades give a room a cozier and smaller feel. Therefore, keep this information in mind when you are selecting the paint colors for your master suite.
While red can be used in a bedroom setting, you need to use some caution as is suggested by the hue. Red is a stimulating color. Therefore, you need to select a muted tint if you make this color selection. As noted, using red on one wall is recommended. However, you should break up the intensity by including the color on walls that feature large windows or a headboard. The same is true for bright colors such as orange or yellow.
Selecting a Finish
Indeed, you can dramatically change the looks of your master suite by having it painted. However, you want to make sure that the upgrade is beneficial to the psyche as well as to the overall décor. Therefore, you also need to consider the finish that you use. An ideal choice is eggshell paint, which is also referred to as satin paint. This paint has a little bit more luster than a flat paint. However, you will not be distracted by shiny walls. You can also maintain the paint better as stains can be wiped away with a soft, damp cloth.
