Living Room Color Trends 2018
February 28, 2018Painting The Exterior of Your House
March 27, 2018Your home office is such an important place to design right. It should have a comfortable style so that you’ll feel at ease staying there all day but also practical so that it can fit every need while you work and keep you working. Needless to say, it is also a décor that you will be seeing every day so you want it to be agreeable and fun enough that you don’t get bored.
Going into designing this space, there are a number of things that you’ll want to keep in mind when preparing for the change but first you have to pick what your main goal is. While you can buy new furniture and adjust lighting, one of the most basic yet integral parts of a new room is the color that you choose for its walls. The paint that’s chosen will become the backdrop for the rest of the time that you are using that space and it is important that you have fully prepared for the moment you choose and then apply that paint.
What Tools to Have Before You Design
Your final product will only be as good as the tools you use so choosing the right ones is key to your success. Though you may feel that you can paint with just about anything, it gets specific with every type of paint that you may use. When using a brush, you’ll need to decide between natural and synthetic bristles: latex is strictly to be used with synthetics while oil-based paints can be used with either.
When using paint rollers, usually the tool of choice when painting walls, the size is what you need to focus on. In this case, the size of the roller is directly correlated to the texture of your wall: the rougher the texture, the longer the roller should be. Even though these tips sound tedious, it will send you on your way to the perfect coat of paint for your office.
How to Choose the Right Color
The color of your walls may seem trivial but actually have more effect than you may think. Every color can effect a different emotion or spark an idea and it is good to harness that in a space where you will be working and being productive. Of course, the reaction may be different with each person but it is something that you need to look into for yourself. For example, some creative workers find it easier to think in a space with white walls as it draws out the creativity toward the blank canvas surrounding them.
Some people find lighter, softer colors such as lavender can leave them feeling more positive and alert. And, opposite of that, some people find that darker tones can evoke a sense of power. So find your color and let it bring you to life.
Master the Final Touches
The last thing that you have to choose after you’ve picked the perfect color is the finish of the paint; it all has to do with the type of vibe that you are trying to create in the space. Flat pain is the most lackluster finish, leaving you with a perfect matte, and is often used in low-traffic areas or for the ceiling of your home. Satin paint has a hint of shine and is actually more durable than the flat paint, which is something to consider if it is a smaller space.
Semi-gloss paint is again more durable than the last two and a bit of a higher gloss as well, which could mean that it catches the light if you are trying to make the space appear bigger. And, lastly, we have gloss paint, which is actually the easiest of the three to clean so is often used in kitchens and bathrooms.
After going through these steps, you will feel prepared to paint your space and then allow those choices to motivate the rest of your design decisions to create a cohesive look.
