What is the Difference in Paint Finishes?
May 16, 2017The Best Tips for How to Brighten Your Home’s Interior
June 6, 2017There are several different types of paints and they’re all meant for specific types of surfaces. For example, you wouldn’t use outdoor paint on your furniture and you probably wouldn’t want to use oil paint on your walls because oil paint can take days to dry and it is very easily smudged.
When it comes to painting your garage’s floors, you’re going to need to figure out what the best paint for garage floors should be. In order to determine the best paint for your garage’s floor, you might need to understand what colors, paint ingredients, and textures are useful for garage floors.
Materials to Choose From
Traditionally, there are two paint materials that you can choose from when it comes to painting your garage floors. First, there are latex acrylic paints. These paints are durable, as acrylic is an easy paint to use, and you can use several coats to create a nice thick layer. The second type of paint to choose from is an epoxy blend. There’s a bit of a problem when it comes to using latex paint on a garage floor. Garage floors are dirty and they get covered in oil stains, cleaning chemicals, dust, and debris. While latex paint can last forever on walls, it might not be the best material for garage floors.
Epoxy paints are usually much more durable and are usually considered the best material when it comes to coating garage floors. There are a few different types of epoxy paints to choose from. First, there are one-part epoxy paints where the epoxy works as a special coating over the paint. A lot of floor painters like to use this kind of paint for garage floors because one-part epoxy paints can typically protect against oil stains, chipping, and other damage that tends to happen in the garage.
However, there is also a two-part epoxy paint that you can use, but it is harder to apply. However, because it is so durable, some consider it to be the very best coating for any garage floor. A lot of people like to use two-part epoxy paints because they also provide a really nice textured look that can help your garage look thick and tough.
Color Options
Two-part epoxy might be the best paint to coat your garage with because it is thick and durable and will last a very long time. However, you should also consider picking a good neutral color that is not difficult to look at. Speckled patterns and textures are bad for garage floors because it’s hard to find anything on the floor. If you work on your car in your garage, for instance, and accidentally drop a loose screw onto your speckled floor, you might never find it.
Try going for a nice gray color that can hide aggressive oil stains but make it easy enough for you to find small screws and other hardware that you might accidentally drop. Epoxy paints can be shiny as well so if you are looking for a smooth and luxurious texture, you should still be able to achieve it with a high-quality epoxy paint.
