When Rain Gutters and Flashing Look Old, It Might Be Time to Paint Instead
October 27, 2017Is it Possible to Repaint Your Fascia and Soffit?
November 30, 2017The leftover paint from your past painting project can be used in a variety of different ways. Many people often end up miscalculating the amount of paint that they will require for their projects and are usually left with a sizeable amount at the end. Throwing away paint is not as simple as it looks, primarily because it is a hazardous material and needs to be disposed of in a proper manner. If the latex paint cans are sealed properly, they can last up to 10 years, while oil-based paints can last more than 15 years.
However, most people don’t really know much about how to seal the paint properly. According to the EPA, it is recommended that you always keep the paint in its original container and also have the original label on it at all times. You can also add the date on which the can was opened and when it was resealed. There are some places where you can donate the cans as well. But you should first check the paint carefully and make sure that the paint hasn’t become dry and lumpy. If that is the case, you should properly consider throwing it away.
But if the paint is still in its usable condition, you can also use it for a variety of other things. Here are some fun ways to reuse the leftover paint from your past home painting project.
Color Kitchen Items
You can easily color the kitchen items such as the canisters and coasters, giving them a very bright and colorful feel. You can even color the handles of spoons and spatulas with brighter colors, thus making your cooking experience much more joyful. It really doesn’t require a lot of effort to paint kitchen items properly; you can be done with most of the items in under an hour at most!
Paint Your Dresser
If you can notice clear blemishes on your dresser or if the paint is peeling off from different areas, you might want to consider painting it up as well. It could add some much-needed pizzazz to your bedroom and add some brighter colors as well, making it look significantly better.
Add Some Accents
You can add some more personality to your place by adding some accents to your doorways or perhaps an entire wall. If you want, you can also use the paint to add borders to the outer walls or even the main gate. If you notice that the main gate is losing its color, why not repaint it? The leftover paint from your home painting project is going to be durable enough that it will last for several years to come on the main gate! There are many other things that you can do with leftover paint, such as repaint the frames on the walls or use it for painting any other existing piece of furniture. It all depends upon how creative you are!
